Celebrate Valentine’s Day Beyond the Stereotypes: Love, Laughter, and Movies at Any Age

Feb 14, 2024

The arrival of Valentine’s Day brings a reminder that romance can be a part of our lives at any age. That said, different people will define romance in different ways. Celebrating this holiday does not mean you have to have a “hot date” in a fancy restaurant (although that’s ok too!).  Whether with friends (Galentine’s Day, anyone?) or even alone, you can celebrate and explore fresh takes on love that transcend age limitations.

Some of our favorite celebrations find us at home watching funny movies. Maybe your loved one would appreciate a movie night with family or even an EGIS caregiver (we do respite care, so family can step away, and companionship care as well).

Three of our favorite films that celebrate being in love at any age include:

As Good as It Gets (1997). Jack Nicholson fans will appreciate this romantic comedy. Both Nicholson and co-star Helen Hunt won Academy Awards for their roles. (Rent or purchase available on YouTube, HBO Max)

Grumpy Old Men (1993). Who knew a movie of this title would be described as a romantic comedy? Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and a stellar cast (Ann Margaret!) make this an enjoyable way to spend an evening. (Rent or purchase available on YouTube)

Roman Holiday (1953). Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck provide great company in this classic romantic comedy. (Rent or purchase available on YouTube, HBO Max)

If you are looking for respite care or companionship care or just help figuring out what’s next for your family’s in-home care needs, EGIS can help. Call us at 505 995-0485 and let’s talk.
